Artist Statement
My ceramic work translates the language of human emotion through vibrant color, layered patterns, and original screen-printed illustrations. Operating within a maximalist aesthetic, I embrace complexity to articulate the multifaceted nature of our inner lives. Each piece is a fully constructed narrative, hand-formed and adorned with imagery exploring primal, animalistic aspects of the human experience.
Maximalism, for me, is a sensory experience resonating viscerally. Abundance of color and imagery serves the narrative and emotional impact.
Inspired by woodworking techniques, I meticulously craft my ceramic canvases, building structures that provide a foundation for layered narratives. These forms become surfaces for emotional expression, where intuitive glazing techniques create depth and luminosity.
My original screen-printed illustrations serve as visual metaphors for raw emotions, and support the specific narrative of each piece. These images explore the often conflicting nature of our desires, juxtaposing innocence with primal urges, and the darker, more impulsive aspects of the human psyche. Stylized animal forms and abstracted figures symbolize our shared human experience, exploring the tension between civilization and untamed impulses, while vibrant colors express the spectrum of human feeling
Ultimately, my work celebrates the human experience, embracing its complexities. It invites an acknowledgment of our animalistic impulses and finding beauty in unfiltered expression. My ceramics are a testament to art's power to connect us through shared emotion and experience.
